Patrick O’Laughlin, Esq
An advocate with over 15 years of litigation experience, in State and Federal court, Public Utility Commissions and FERC. Patrick has extensive legal experience, with licensure in Maryland, Washington D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Our principal has a proven track record of adept handling of complex, multi-issue legal matters, He is dedicated to equitable disposition of energy law matters. Patrick’s prior experience includes civil plaintiffs, insurance defense, criminal defense, and administrative law across state, territorial, and appellate courts.
Over the last many years Patrick has focused on equitable energy development, where he grew his expertise in renewable energy project financing. As the Principal of Energy Nexus Advocates, Patrick provides strategic legal support to energy, environmental, and climate organizations on the latest issues emerging in the sector. Patrick has a background in consumer protection, having served as Assistant People’s Counsel for Maryland’s Office of People’s Counsel. There he successfully litigated rate cases and advocated for fairer energy rates and transparency.
Throughout his career, Patrick has championed inclusive and equitable work environments, and is committed to allyship as a core strength of his approach. Patrick’s portfolio includes pro bono and low bono work includes assistance of nonprofits in maintaining legal operations and regulatory compliance.
Patrick is known for his oral and written advocacy, client management, and a collaborative leadership style.
